Smartcards A smartcard is a credit card sized
plastic card with a microchip module embedded according to the International
Standards Organisation 7816 standard. There are several types of
media that fall into the smartcard category. These devices have
a lot of common features and may be described Simple smartcards,
Smartcards, Super Smartcards and Contactless smartcards. Smart Silicon
can provide Smartcards for most applications.
Smartcard Readers Smartcard readers from Smart Silicon
have varying functional characteristics. They vary from the most
basic unit which is termed an ISO pass through reader; for this
type of reader ISO smartcard commands are sent from a host computer
directly to any inserted card. More sophisticated units have the
capability to have customised software written for them. This software
may have the capability to do data encryption or other security
related mechanisms.
Smartcard Applications Smart Silicon is well positioned to meet
the future smart card requirements of business and government. The
release of the SIM Manager product and the Singapore Cashcard product
places Smart Silicon at the forefront of technology appropriate
to today's mass smart card based systems. These products are capable
of being customised to many markets including home banking, university
systems, data security systems and many more.
