VIRTUAL TERMINAL
The CAS Virtual Terminal is designed as a replacement for traditional, hardware based EFT terminals. Most hardware terminals are provided by a particular bank, and can only be used with that bank. They also communicate via dedicated phone lines, which are often slow, costly or unreliable.
The Virtual Terminal is based on Card Access Services’ ECom range of Internet and Telephony e-Commerce products. The Virtual Terminal communicates via a standard Internet connection from a computer terminal (which may be shared across multiple terminals) to the CAS servers. It uses the CAS Direct TM payment engine, and requires no specialised hardware or software on the merchant terminal. It may also be linked to any bank, and the banking arrangement may be changed at any time with no change to the technology. |

Solution Architecture
The Virtual Terminal is based upon Card Access Services’ CAS Direct product. However in this case, the Merchant rather than the Cardholder is responsible for entering payment details into the Virtual Terminal. It is not necessary to integrate the Virtual Terminal within the merchant’s business application or web site. Instead, the Virtual Terminal is housed in a web site hosted at CAS. Operators log in to the Virtual Terminal web site; this stores in a “cookie” on their browser, together with the merchant information, cards accepted and the minimum and maximum payments amounts.
Transaction Security
The operator enters the payment information via their browser. The Virtual Terminal interface encrypts the transaction details and submits them via a secure SSL connection to the CAS Direct payment engine. All of the CAS Direct payment notification methods are supported except URL redirection. A receipt number is returned to the user interface so that the operator and/or customer may record the transaction and receipt number.
Reporting
The VET offers full reporting including a dynamic breakdown by staff member, customer or transaction. The Virtual Terminal also offers a reference field so that jobs can be tagged with a customer reference number if required. . |
